39-year-old Daniel Dickons, who pushed a woman in her 60s from her bicycle in a daylight assault, prompting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to be scrambled, has been spared an immediate prison sentence.
Police were called to Culver Parade, Sandown, at 15:10 on 5th August 2025 following reports that a woman had been pushed from her bicycle.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was dispatched to the incident, alongside other emergency services, after the woman fell some height from the sea wall onto the sand below.
The victim, aged in her 60s, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment to injuries to her head, legs and face. She later recovered at home.
Dickons, of Avenue Road, Sandown, was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The 39-year-old entered a guilty plea to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court in April. He returned to court for sentencing on 30th June.
Dickons, who has 6 previous convictions for 6 offences dating back to 2008, was handed a 52-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
As part of the suspended sentence, he must complete a 6-month alcohol treatment programme and 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim.
Wow the justice system in the uk is NOT fit for purpose. He should have gone straight to prison. It was pure luck that she didn’t die. This scumbag has a criminal record as long as his arm and clearly is sticking 2 fingers up at the system
My 11 year old grandson was physically assaulted by a man in his 40’s, sustaining cuts and bruises. The perpetrator broke down in tears when he was being interviewed, then subsequently let off with a caution.
I have no confidence in the police whatsoever – complete bunch of buffoons.
Police don’t decide the outcome. If he was cautioned, that’s on the courts.
The police are empowered to issue cautions instead of prosecution through the courts . Courts do not issue cautions.
That’s incorrect. It never went any further than the police. It never went to court, it was purely a decision made by the police. We were gobsmacked when we found out there would be no court case.
That is completely wrong. Cautions are issued by the police at the discretion of a senior police officer. If a caution is accepted then the matter never goes to court so it cannot be “on the courts”.
All Government organisations are poor.
The police are experts at being poor…

There are a number of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) on the isle of wight, who report on (crimes/those involved) for profit, it also gives them some immunity to prosecution because of their helpfulness to the local police, can sometimes receive cautions (out-of-court disposals) instead of being prosecuted for crimes. This happens when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and senior officers determine that the informant’s value to intelligence-gathering outweighs the public interest in prosecuting the offense. I am not saying Daniel Dickons told the police anything to get himself off. I am sure any Police arrests which happened shortly after his interview and release is purely coincidental and in no way whatsoever should indicate he has done his civic duty in exchange for leniency either real or imagined.
Shoplifting etc is wrong, yet from what you read on a
weekly basis the law on the island are more than likely
to imprison a shoplifter than an evil person who attacks
innocent people by nearly killing them.
The mind boggles, where did it all go wrong.

Magistrates in England and Wales are lay people appointed from the pool of people who put themselves forward to serve. Perhaps if some of those who regularly sit on the sidelines criticising what the courts do were to apply they would be in a better position to influence things. “Put your money where your mouth is” I believe is the expression.
