39-year-old Daniel Dickons, who pushed a woman in her 60s from her bicycle in a daylight assault, prompting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to be scrambled, has been spared an immediate prison sentence.
Police were called to Culver Parade, Sandown, at 15:10 on 5th August 2025 following reports that a woman had been pushed from her bicycle.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was dispatched to the incident, alongside other emergency services, after the woman fell some height from the sea wall onto the sand below.
The victim, aged in her 60s, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment to injuries to her head, legs and face. She later recovered at home.
Dickons, of Avenue Road, Sandown, was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The 39-year-old entered a guilty plea to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court in April. He returned to court for sentencing on 30th June.
Dickons, who has 6 previous convictions for 6 offences dating back to 2008, was handed a 52-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
As part of the suspended sentence, he must complete a 6-month alcohol treatment programme and 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim.
Wow the justice system in the uk is NOT fit for purpose. He should have gone straight to prison. It was pure luck that she didn’t die. This scumbag has a criminal record as long as his arm and clearly is sticking 2 fingers up at the system
My 11 year old grandson was physically assaulted by a man in his 40’s, sustaining cuts and bruises. The perpetrator broke down in tears when he was being interviewed, then subsequently let off with a caution.
I have no confidence in the police whatsoever – complete bunch of buffoons.
