Temporary traffic lights have been removed from the A3056 at Hale Common after work to improve 2 bus stops was completed earlier today (Wednesday).
The scheme, outside Leslie’s Suzuki between Arreton and Lake, began on 21st September and had initially been expected to take around 3 weeks.
Island Roads has confirmed that the improvement works were completed today, with the temporary traffic lights used during the project now taken down.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the scheme has seen hard standings and a footway created at the bus stops on both sides of the A3056, along with a tactile crossing point to help pedestrians move safely between the 2 stops.
The work forms part of a wider programme aimed at making bus stops between Arreton and Lake safer and more accessible.
Previously, a spokesperson for Island Roads said:
“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these important upgrades are being delivered.

Funding for the improvements was secured by the Isle of Wight Council from the Department for Transport through the A3056 Safer Roads Fund.
The Hale Common project followed an earlier phase of bus stop improvement works at Arreton.
