Further work to make bus stops between Arreton and Lake safer and more accessible will get underway later this month, with a 3-week scheme planned at Hale Common.
Island Roads, working on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, will upgrade bus stops on both sides of the A3056 outside Leslie’s Suzuki, with work due to begin next Monday (21st September).
Hard standings and a footway will be created at the bus stops on both sides of the road, while a tactile crossing point will also be installed to help pedestrians move safely between the 2 improved stops.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation while the work is carried out.
The improvements are being delivered using Department for Transport funding secured by the Isle of Wight Council as part of the A3056 Safer Roads Fund.
It follows the first phase of the scheme, which is seeing bus stops in Arreton upgraded.
An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these important upgrades are being delivered.

Don’t forget the bus stop along Beaper Shute
Only a Numpty organisation would allow buses to stop in the middle of the road.
The bus stop is outside Whitefield tourist park, move a few trees
so the bus can pull in.
Why was this not done when the pavements were being installed. More incompetence from the council and Island Roads.
