Ryde Rowing Club enjoyed another successful outing on the Hants & Dorset ARA circuit on Saturday, with several crews securing top-3 finishes at Poole Regatta.
Members of the Wightlink-sponsored club travelled to Hamworthy Park in Poole to compete in the latest Hants & Dorset Regatta, hosted by Poole Rowing Club.
The Wightlink-sponsored club fielded 5 fours crews – including 1 composite crew with Newport Rowing Club – alongside a J16 double scull and 6 single scullers.
Ryde’s Open Novice Four of Luckas Georgiou, Harry Crofts, Max Locke, Cameron D’Arcy, with Harry Watts coxing, finished 3rd in their heat to qualify for the final, where they placed 4th.
The Women’s Senior Four of Stella Baisley, Alexis Owen, Fiona Owen and Abi Locke, with Ruby Read coxing, finished 4th in their final.
Demi Cranham-Ede and Abby Bird raced as part of a composite crew with 2 novice women and a cox from Newport Rowing Club, producing a strong performance to finish runners-up in their final.
Ryde’s Women’s Masters 40 Four of Fiona Owen, Clare Gordon, Abi Locke and Maggie Sanderson, again coxed by Ruby Read, claimed 3rd place in their final.
In the Mixed Four event, Isaac Gibson, Abby Bird, Joe Bird and Clare Gordon, with Harry Watts coxing, finished 6th.
Max Locke and Cameron D’Arcy combined in the J16 Boys’ Double Sculls and secured an impressive 2nd-place finish.
Charlie Watts had competed at the British Rowing Junior Championships at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham just 24 hours before the Poole regatta.
Racing in the Open J18 Single Sculls against predominantly older opposition, Charlie narrowly missed out on a place in the final but recorded a personal best time, taking 30 seconds off his previous best over the same distance.
Back at Poole on Saturday, Charlie finished an impressive 2nd in the Coastal Junior Sculls final. However, his busy weekend ended in disappointment in the Open Novice Sculls, where he was forced to retire after his boat broke during the race.
Isaac Gibson, racing as Ryde’s second entry in the Open Novice Sculls, produced an excellent row to finish 2nd in the final.
Ryde also had 2 finalists in the Women’s Novice Sculls, with Alexis Owen taking 2nd place and Stella Baisley finishing 4th.
Joe Bird placed 4th in the J16 Boys’ Single Sculls final.
Ruby Read also coxed Newport Rowing Club’s Junior Senior B crew, who finished 4th in their final.
