As part of the Cowes Week 200 celebrations, Trinity Theatre is inviting the community to experience Britannia’s Wake, a moving short film that brings one of Cowes’ most iconic yachts back to life through storytelling, drama and local history.
Written, produced, directed and performed by members of Trinity Theatre Cowes, Britannia’s Waketells the story of the day the famous yacht Britannia was scuttled. The film follows a group of men who gather at the Union Inn to hold a wake in her honour. As they share memories, the yacht’s remarkable story unfolds through dramatic performances interwoven with historic photographs, tracing her journey from launch to her final resting place beneath the waters of St Catherine’s Deep.
Filmed entirely on location in Cowes, the production celebrates the Isle of Wight’s rich maritime heritage while showcasing the talents of the local community. The film has been created especially for Cowes Week 200 and offers audiences a unique blend of history, theatre and film.
Screenings will take place at Trinity Theatre from 31st July to 7th August, with performances at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00 each day.
Admission is free, with voluntary donations welcomed in support of the Trinity Theatre Roof Fund, helping to preserve one of Cowes’ most cherished cultural venues.
Visitors are also invited to enjoy the theatre’s exhibition and bar, open daily from 10:30 to 14:30.
