A man refusing to get out of the sea has led to a multi-agency emergency response to Wootton this afternoon (Thursday).
It was around 13:30 that HM Coastguard was alerted to a concern for welfare incident at Woodside, where it is understood a male had entered the water and was refusing to leave when requested to by others accompanying him.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were duly mobilised, alongside Cowes RNLI Lifeboat.
Volunteers arrived on scene at just before 14:00.
The ‘casualty’ is now safely on shore and is being assessed by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, with an ambulance and operational commander in attendance.
A spokesperson for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency has said:
“HM Coastguard is currently attending an incident at Woodside Beach, Wootton.
“Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge have been sent, along with an RNLI lifeboat from Cowes”.
