Red Funnel has announced that it has had to suspend its vehicle service ‘until further notice due to adverse weather’ as well as the Red Jet service ‘due to adverse tidal conditions and wave height limitations’.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hovertravel is also not currently running with a further update expected at 16:45.
Additionally, SWR have announced that there is no service running between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade for the 2nd day running, although they have again arranged a replacement shuttle.
The severe weather has also affected the roads, with Oakhill Road in Seaview completely blocked by a fallen tree.
UPDATE @ 17:25 – Red Jet services will return to timetable from Cowes at 17:55.
The vehicle ferry has also returned to partial service, although the 22:00 from Southampton and the 23:30 from East Cowes have been cancelled.
Furthermore, the 20:15 from Southampton and the 21:45 from East Cowes will be delayed by approximately 45 minutes.
Hovertravel services are still cancelled with a further update expected at 18:45.

Why has the 13:00 not docked yet?
Do you remember 20 plus years ago rarely did they ever not run..
They can’t fill the boats again, they also take us for fools…..If we had another Dunkirk these idiots would run a mile…
Almost like these extreme weather events are happening more and more and when they do they are more extreme. Now, who was it that said this would happen??? Idiots on face book or the scientists that have spend their life studying the climate.
I remember these rxtreme weather events for the last 60 years!!
What’s up with the trains – too windy? or not enough traffic due to Fast Cat shutdown?
Leaves on the line?
Red Osprey seems to be taking a scenic tour of the west Solent.
Amazingly, WightLink Fishbourne still running – and they must be at least as exposed as RF.
Red funnel crashed too many times in poor visibility and got handed restrictions from on high.
Less “adverse weather” and more the fact they’ve been downgraded to fairweather sailers due to getting lost in the Medina too often.
It would be nice to have a proper public service but the private sector can’t provide and public sector won’t if we keep voting the same way.
Osprey, Eagle and Falcon still running, apparently to schedule. Some mistake?
What a catastrophe for people traveling home from work tonight awful for them
Living on an island what do you expect it’s not the end of the world
20 years ago I worked on the mainland five days a week for three years. Only had the seacat cancelled twice in that time and the car ferry was still running. And the sea cat was a lot older and smaller.
I used to work in London Road, Southampton, from ’88 to ’89 and would use the Hydrofoil twice a day. I don’t remember ever having any issues with the Hydrofoil. One car crossing was postponed on a Friday night due to the Captain having a heart attack.
In essence, it was an easy journey with no stressful encounters.
Unbelievable poor service as usual.
Not helped by the nice shiny breakwater they built to give the Squadron a bit of shelter, not that Im suggesting its made the harbour entrance narrower and harder to navigate
Even if the ferries were running? I certainly would not want to be on one in this weather!!
You would if you had to get to an airport or an urgent hospital appointment.
I cannot believe some of the crass comment posted here. Did any of the writers actually venture outside yesterday?
I happened to be at the parade in Cowes lunchtime and watched the Ferry struggling to enter the Madina. She was being pushed West by both the tide and wind and nearly hit the green bouy even though she was utilising her side thruster at what looked like full tilt. Must have been nerve wracking for the crew. She seemed to lay off opposite the Squadron once she’d sorted herself.
My Partner was stuck on one of the ferries coming into E. Cowes for the best part of 3 hours and was not even offered a free cup of tea. when paying over £3000 per year for her annual Redjet pass (Just gone up again by hundreds of pounds) I think this is pretty shocking customer service.
Another hype in the cost of the ferry
