Carisbrooke Road in the heart of the Isle of Wight has been closed this morning (Tuesday) as a burst water main has left the area in need of urgent repairs.
The burst main comes just days after the road was reopened following Southern Water and Island Roads works, in which it was said that Southern Water engineers were working to rectify a collapsed sewer in the area.
At the same time, Island Roads were on scene along the stretch also known as The Mall to repair a void in the footway.
This morning, it has been confirmed the road has been closed in its entirety from its junction with Trafalgar Road to Drill Hall Road.
Water is seeping through a Victorian wall from the pavement that runs alongside The Mall.
Southern Vectis says its Routes 6, 7, 12, 38 and 39 are affected. All services leaving Newport will divert via Upper St James Street and Trafalgar Road, with buses looking to enter Newport diverting via Wellington Road and Mountbatten Drive, due to the separate closure of Whitepit Lane.
It is currently unknown how long the road will remain closed.
Years of underfunding Southern water coming home to fruition
Don’t worry, because the reform councillors have confidence in southern water. If reform can’t even get this right, god forbid they make the next goverment. The reform elite wont run the country, they will loot it.

Unfortunately due to the absolute farce that takes place within so many official channels Reform had to abstain from the vote so they could actually push Southern Water harder on several key points. I failed to read anywhere that they had confidence in them…..quite the opposite actually. As they should!
