Colleagues and customers from Sainsbury’s stores in Newport and Sandown have raised £11,036 to support the supermarket’s Local Charity of the Year, Ability Dogs 4 Young People.
The 2 Island stores have supported the Sandown-based charity since May 2015 and have raised funds through collection days, quiz and bingo nights, a colleague sponsored silence, a sponsored walk plus a Christmas and Easter competition for customers. Part of the money raised is a donation from Sainsbury’s carrier bag sales following on from the recent change in legislation.

Carol Court, Ability Dogs 4 Young People’s Founder and CEO said:
“We’re very touched by the generosity of Sainsbury’s Newport Store and Sandown Local colleagues and customers. We’ve really enjoyed working with them and the money raised has really made a difference. It will cover the cost of Honey’s training so she can go on to help another disabled young person on the Isle of Wight.”
Store Manager, Paul Dyer added:
“It’s been fantastic to see the way everyone has pulled together since we started working with Ability Dogs 4 Young People. We’ve enjoyed coming up with ways to support and volunteer for this very worthy cause and it’s great to think that we’re making a positive difference to so many people.”
