This weekend, ‘Christians Working Together in The Bay’ will remember what happened to Jesus some 2,000 years ago. Different people will take in turns carrying a cross through Shanklin calling at St Blasius, St Saviour’s, United Reformed, Methodist, Sacred Heart and St Paul’s Churches. At each stop, part of the crucifixion story will be read. Today, Good Friday, is tough. Judas betrayed Jesus, Peter denied ever knowing him, and the other disciples ran away. They were all in despair. At 06:30 on Easter Sunday, crowds will gather at the bottom of Hope Road. As the sun rises out of the sea, they will celebrate the resurrection of their Lord, Jesus Christ, alive and life-giving. The South East Beach Café will open specially to provide breakfast. Brian Harley, minister of Shanklin United Reformed said:
“It is great to see members from several local congregations joining together as a witness to our faith in Jesus – our crucified and risen Lord.”
