A prolific offender who stole ready meals and a Lindt Bunny during a Palm Sunday shoplifting incident has been ordered to pay compensation.
Roland Tomlin, 48, of Avenue Road in Sandown, admitted a single count of theft from a shop when he appeared the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that on the 29th March, Tomlin entered Tesco Express on The Fairway in Sandown and stole ready meals and a Lindt Bunny to the value of £22.30.
The court heard how Tomlin was caught on CCTV and soon identified.
Defending Tomlin, Nick Muir told the court that his client was struggling financially after experiencing issues with the overdraft in his bank account.
The court heard how Tomlin, who has 38 convictions for more than 100 offences, has more than £3,200 pound outstanding on his court account.
Magistrates handed Tomlin a £40 fine and ordered he pay £85 costs, £22.30 compensation and a £16 surcharge fee.
