A total of 48 women golfers from clubs across the Isle of Wight came together at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club for the annual Butterfly Trophies competition, helping raise £7,795 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
The greensomes stableford competition was held last weekend (27th September), continuing a fundraising tradition that dates back almost 30 years.
The Butterfly Trophies began after Kath Harding, of Newport Golf Club, came up with the idea in the autumn of 1996 of bringing together the ladies’ sections of Island golf clubs to raise money for the local hospice.
The first competition was held the following year and the event has continued ever since.
Fran Cole and Gail Boyer took top spot this year with 43 points.
Sarah Nye and Amanda Wade finished runners-up with 40 points, while Kathryn Acklam and Sue Keen placed 3rd with 39 points.
Island golf clubs have collectively raised £7,795 for Mountbatten this year.
That takes the total raised through the Butterfly Trophies since 1997 to £113,406.
