Young rider Finley Manser-Grundy delivered an impressive performance at the MIJ Downhill Series in the Forest of Dean last weekend, securing victory in the Little Rippers (Under 7–9) category on his first appearance in the series.
Racing on a brand-new, highly technical track featuring loose loamy soil and challenging off-camber corners, conditions proved demanding across a hot weekend.
With less emphasis on pedalling and a greater focus on technical skill, the course was an unknown test for Finley but he adapted quickly.
In his opening run, Finley placed second, just half a second off the lead. Carrying confidence into his second run, he identified key areas to gain time and executed well, taking three seconds off his first run to claim the win by a comfortable margin.
The result highlights Finley’s growing all-round ability, demonstrating strong technical riding alongside his established strengths across other cycling disciplines.
The weekend also provided valuable experience, with two days of riding on some of the Forest of Dean’s most demanding terrain.
As always, thanks go to team sponsors Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, Island Renewables Ltd, Wight Mountain, Rapanui, KReative Studios and Adrian’s Bike Shop for their continued support.
