Wight Eagles Academy sides took home the points from North Island trips to Stubbington and Chineham.
STUBBINGTON U12s 2 – 3 WIGHT EAGLES U12s
The youngest Eagles had to battle hard on Saturday away to Stubbington, as they went 2-0 down in the 1st half. This was a testing start of their campaign as league winners last season, and now in the division above, they soon saw it was going to take them time to settle.
They came out in the 2nd half and played a different game more settled and ready to fight for the win. They soon scored to make it 2-1 with a goal from last season’s Golden Boot winner Evlynn Harvey, and it wasn’t long before she scored her brace to make it 2-2.
The game was level until the final 5 minutes when a great goal from Hanna Carter sealed the 3 points for the island side.

Manager Sally Parkman said:
“We had two new players join our team over the summer. Also, with my squad of 30 players, it’s very hard to select them all, but the squad today played amazingly and deserved all 3 points.”

CHINEHAM U14s 1 -3 WIGHT EAGLES U14s
The Eagles U14s had to travel to Chineham for their opening game of the season. The game started very well, with Chineham pretty much controlling the 1st half. The young Eagles stayed strong throughout the 1st half but were unable to make the breakthrough. Chineham put the pressure on and managed to score just over halfway through the 1st half.
The Eagles had chances before the interval but couldn’t make it count as Chineham held on strong till the end of the half.
The 2nd half started, and the Islanders turned it up a gear, controlling the game and had chances straight from the off. The Eagles managed to equalise to make it 1-1 with a goal scored by Imogen Jones. This then gave the girls the motivation to push on and create more scoring opportunities. Kelsie Ronan finished her chance and shortly after Imogen Jones bagged her brace to finish the game 1-3.

Manager Scott Ronan said:
“The girls were outstanding today. Even when we didn’t have much control in the 1st half, they still managed to stay solid as a unit and stepped it up in the second half.
“This is the best start for us off the back of a poor last season. It’s good to start well and for them to get what they deserve.”
