Patrick O’Flynn, Benjamin Blenkinsop and William Cantelo have all been charged in connection with a public order incident in Newport on Sunday night, which saw parts of Newport cordoned off.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called to the town centre at just gone 18:45 on 16th March following reports of a fight involving 3 men.
A cordon was quickly established around Bowling Green Lane with detectives from Newport CID called in to investigate the incident.
A short while later, 2 men were stopped on South View, off Trafalgar Road – with responding officers identifying that 1 of the men had an injury to his chest. He was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital but later discharged.
A knife was seized by Police.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed this morning that following a thorough investigation, all 3 men have been charged and remanded to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Tuesday).
41-year-old Patrick William O’Flynn, of Lea Road in Sandown, has been charged with affray and possession of a knife/blade in a public place.
23-year-old Benjamin David Blenkinsop, of Royal Architects Road in East Cowes, has been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
24-year-old William Cantelo, of Chapel Street in Newport, has been charged with affray.
UPDATE TUESDAY – All 3 men appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today, where they entered no plea to the charges against them.
They have been granted bail to appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 28th April.
