Very strong winds will hit the Isle of Wight tomorrow morning (Monday), prompting a yellow weather warning to be issued by IW Met Service. The new week will start with gusts reaching as high as 65mph from the West South West, with showery and heavy outbreaks of rain at times. As Monday progresses, the wind will ease slightly and turn more to West North West. The warning for strong winds is valid from 09:00 until midday, but a wider advisory is in place from 06:00 to 18:00. Islanders should be aware of the possibility for falling debris, the risk of damage to outdoor furniture and delays to cross-Solent travel. Large waves will affect Southern and Western coast on the Isle of Wight. Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“During the summer half of the year we issue advisories for weather conditions that do not quite meet the threshold for a warning. The reason we do this is so that people participating in outdoor activities can be extra aware of the potential risks due to the conditions. “A warning may still be issued on occasion, but often an advisory will be in force ahead of the warning and again after the warning/severe conditions have subsided but have not yet fallen below the advisory threshold”.
