A high ropes course, climbing wall and bungee trampolines are among major plans for a holiday park in Shanklin that is looking to upgrade its facilities. Parkdean Resort’s Lower Hyde Holiday Park is hoping to meet the future needs of visitors by providing more exciting activities for its guests and improving current facilities. In plans submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, the national holiday resort company would like to add new attractions including:
- A ‘King Kong’ climbing wall;
- Adventure and junior play equipment;
- Bungee trampolines;
- Kart and bike hire facilities;
- A high ropes course and zip wire;
- Adventure golf course;
- ‘Shades of Comfort’ hospitality enclosure;
- Multi-use games area (MUGA);
- Arts ‘n’ crafts den;
- Activity tent;
- Food and drink serving containers including a bar, a pizza bar and a ‘fish and chippery’;
- Outside covered seating; and refurbish the outdoor entertainment stage
Works are also proposed the the existing entertainment complex and could see the swimming pool, showbar, kitchen and shop extended with a raised seating area added. The former housekeeping building could also be repurposed to provide an ice-cream and coffee outlet, office, briefing room and storage spaces. Overall, planning documents say, the proposals are seeking to enhance entertainment, activity and leisure facilities for all holiday park guests, while looking to meet the demand for high-quality holiday accommodation. It is hoped the improvement will encourage more guests to the holiday park, and in turn more visitors to the Island. 21 single-storey holiday chalets could also be demolished in the plans, making way for the bases of 8 new, and improved, static caravans to improve accommodation types. Permission had previously been granted two years ago for outdoor upgrades at the park but had not been started yet. You can view the plans, 23/01878/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 8th December.

Let’s hope the planning fails.
We don’t want all these people who are too poor to have decent holidays roaming around on cycles, ruining the countryside with fast food packets and discarded alcohol tins everywhere and starting fires with carelessly left bbqs.
Many of these people are likely from up North, or worse from other climes and don’t belong here. Theft will be rife in local shops and drunken cyclists will be an everyday problem for us all.
Please planners refuse this growing eyesore on our Countryside.
Lets hope the planning succeeds.
We want all of these people to come here to have fun holidays riding around on cycles, enjoying the countryside with freshly made sandwiches and flasks of tea, and clearing up properly after lavish picnics.
Many of these people are likely from up North or even further afield and we will welcome them all with open arms as our brothers and sisters. They will spend lots of money in shops and visiting all of the attractions that keep the island’s economy going.
Please planners approve these wonderful upgrades to a great island holiday park.
To poor have you seen the ferry price’s
It’s the locals who doing the shop lifting, regularly in IE.
What an idiotic comment,dont tar all northerners with the same brush, there is more theft from local on the isle of wight.
How have you come to your conclutions theft will be rife in local shops by northerners,the majority of theft cases in iow courts are from locals.drunken cyclists, cyclists are a nationwide problem but not all drunken cyclists,while on the subject,there seems to be more islanders prosecuted for drink driving, not often you see mainlanders prosecuted.
Everyone from north of the island is a northerner to local morons.
Not before time the chalets are discusting and as for security non existent
You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig
We don’t want to know about your disgusting sexual preferences. You should be in jail.
Good on them investing money on the park,no doubt the council will turn it down as it’s not building a housing estate,not many attractions left now
Ban it, too many low life chavs and ethnics here now, without bringing down more to ruin our society.
