Island Roads has given a helping hand to Isle of Wight children’s charity Daisy Chains.
Over the past 2 years, staff from the highways PFI company have been raising money for Daisy Chains after voting it their charity of the year.
Because fundraising was hindered by the pandemic, staff have been raising money for the charity for the past two years which meant a grand total of £874.48 could be handed over to Daisy Chains fundraising managers Kellie Lawrence and Mandy Fuller.
Island Roads fundraising team member Elbie Todd, who handed over the cheque with construction manager Keith Gourlay, said staff had chosen to support Daisy Chain as several had first-hand experience of the problems encountered by parents of poorly children.
Elbie said:
“It really is a fantastic charity that does so much to support poorly young ones and their families so we were delighted to be able to support them over the last two years. We know the money will be put to very good use.”
Money was raised from a number of staff events including cake sales, sweepstakes and mufti days. Besides cash, Island Roads staff also donated Christmas gifts to Daisy Chain families.
Founded in 2012 by a group of parents, Daisy Chains supports Island children with a disability, long-term health needs or life-limiting condition. It also provides grants for much needed equipment and helps families with the cost of travelling to mainland hospital appointments.
Kellie said:
“This is a really important donation from Island Roads as, sadly, some local charities who provided similar support to Daisy Chains have closed over the pandemic period so there is a real and growing need for our services. Every penny of this kind donation from Island Roads will be used to make a real difference to the young people and families who need us.”

This year Island Road staff have chosen Beaulieu Respite as their chosen charity.

Great to see I.R doing some good for a change, shame their
Road works are not up to scratch.
Island Roads what’s happening about the Double Yellow lines
you are meant to be placing outside the old council houses along Great Preston Road.
In the meantine well done with the money raised for such a great cause.
Lisa
It will never happen
IW Council and Island Roads are useless and there is no Law and Order on the
Island when it comes to D’ickheads parking on pavements Islandwide.
Safety for pedestrians on the Island is 0
IW Council could not stop a Bus at a Bus Stop.
Parking on Pavements is an Health and Safety issue
IW Council have a duty of care to protect pedestrians whilst
walking on pavements.
Due to the Island being a Dinosaur and being a lack of brains at
County Hall they allow persons to park on pavements.
My guess is that the District Steward for Ryde does not even know where
Great Preston Road is!
If he monitored 24/7 the Parking on Pavements along Great Preston Road
he would see how dangerous it is.
I personally have no time for this out of touch Council, because it does not
affect them they do not care!!
It’s those ex councils houses along Great Preston Road
I personally am fed up with idiots parking on the pavement
Nothing gets done about it, there are no rules on the Island.
I was born and bred on the Island and it’s been getting worse over
the last 30 years, and they want to build more properties
They cannot even control persons now, yet alone having more people
living on the Island.
It’s about time this Council Banned Parking on Pavements.
Great Preston Road is becoming a sh*t tip for pavement parking
Sadly the Island does not have anyone running the Island.
MP is not Island based, Council are Useless.
Island Roads dont know what they are doing and
the Law do not Understand the Higjsat code themselves.
I live in Shanklin and Regent Street is rife with pavement parking
yet the cop shop is only along the Road.
Says a lot about the law on the Island.
Island Roads could not run a bath
We have had 10 years of their sh*t and the Island is
no better.
Rumours are they are meant to be laying Double Yellow lines
Outside the old council houses along Great Preston Road
to STOP T’wats parking on pavements
I think Island Roads have lost the paint.
Useless B’stards
