You’re never too old to enjoy the Beautiful Game and with the World Cup well under way in North America, now is the perfect time to rekindle your love of the Beautiful Game.
You are never too old to want to kick a ball around and the veterans’ football sessions at West Wight Sports and Community Centre could be just the place to stary playing again.
Obviously, vets’ football is played at a slower pace but whether starting out or a veteran of the game, the West Wight SCC sessions are a great way to keep fit and enjoy a game of indoor football.
There are 2 sessions each week at the charity-run centre, a staffed session on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 11:30 and an unstaffed session on Sundays from 10:00 to 11:00. There is no definitive lower age limit but over-50 is the guideline.
Aidan Taylor, who runs the veterans’ football for the centre, said:
“The sessions are typically a recreational, multi-ability game, usually played in 3x 25-minute thirds, with five-minute breaks.”
The games are usually 5 or 6 a side and women as well as men are welcome.
Aidan added:
“The players tell me it’s an amazing escape from life once or twice a week. They love that the centre offers the sessions so they can continue playing the game they love.”
Clare Griffin, centre manager, added:
“These sessions are part of our strategy to get people of all ages involved in physical recreation, with all the physical and mental health benefits that brings.
“People come from all over the Island to use our facilities and activities such as this provide great social interaction as well as a good workout.”
