A crash involving a motorcycle – which has thrown the rider and their pillion to the ground – is causing significant delays in Lake this evening (Monday).
Emergency services are en-route to Lake Hill, where a road traffic collision is causing traffic tailbacks in both directions.
The incident happened at just before 19:20.
A male is lying injured in the middle of the road, with his pillion – also male – situated on the pavement.
UPDATE @ 19:32 – Lake Hill has been closed in both directions by Police.
Motorists are being diverted via Perowne Way until further notice, with Southern Vectis Routes 2, 3 and 8 also on diversion.
UPDATE @ 20:13 – Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are still tending to the motorcyclist, who remains on the ground nearly an hour after the collision.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is being supported by firefighters from Shanklin and Ventnor.
A cordon has been erected as emergency teams continue to tend to those involve and conduct on scene investigations.
UPDATE @ 21:24 – With the casualty now receiving treatment at hospital, Lake Hill has reopened in both directions.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is expected to comment on the incident on Tuesday morning.
This island has more crazy accidents that any other place I have seen. But so many accidents on motorbikes and lets face almost all of them drive just as bad if not worse that the crazy tourists who think the road laws change because they are on holiday. So many accidents lately involving bikes you just cant have sympathy for them

I’m not surprised that someone crashed on that particular stretch of road, people tend to stop suddenly to pull into a road on there and combined with the traffic moving at bipolar speeds it makes lake hill relatively dangerous for motorists alike.
