A pair of talented dancers from the Isle of Wight, Anya Murphy and Kenzie Madden, from Seaview, will represent England at an international dance competition next week.
The 12-year-old duo, who train with Timestep Academy of Dance in Portsmouth, have been selected for Team England and will compete at the Dance World Cup Finals in Dublin.
The prestigious competition, taking place from 8th to 18th July, will welcome around 120,000 competitors from 74 countries.
Anya and Kenzie will compete in the 11-13 age category, performing in three group routines: two national dance performances inspired by Polish and Ukrainian styles, as well as a Song & Dance routine.
In preparation for the event, the girls have travelled to Portsmouth each week for intensive training – with Wightlink supporting them with cross-Solent travel.
Anya and Kenzie have said:
“We’re so excited to be representing Team England at the Dance World Cup,”
“We’ve worked really hard over the last few months and can’t wait to compete in Dublin. It’s an amazing opportunity and we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us, especially our families, teachers and sponsors, for helping us get there.”
Sam Woodman, Wightlink’s Partnerships Marketing Manager, said:
“It’s a privilege to support talented young Islanders as they pursue opportunities like this. Anya and Kenzie have shown tremendous commitment to their training, and being selected to represent Team England is a fantastic achievement. We wish them every success at the Dance World Cup Finals and know they’ll do both the Island and their country proud.”
The pair would like to thank Wightlink, the Nettlestone & Seaview Community Partnership, and Nisa Nettlestone for their generous support in helping to cover the costs of travel and their Team England kit.
