Medina Marching Band has returned to the Isle of Wight after representing the Island at London Band Week, performing at 2 of the UK’s premier marching band events over an unforgettable weekend in the capital.
On Saturday 27th June, the band took to the stage at the prestigious London Tattoo, joining bands from across the UK and overseas in a showcase of music, marching and pageantry.
The following day, members took part in the Palace Parade Review, beginning on The Mall before marching past Buckingham Palace, along Birdcage Walk and finishing at Horse Guards Parade, where bands were reviewed in one of Britain’s most iconic ceremonial settings.
The appearances marked the culmination of months of rehearsals and preparation by the band’s musicians ahead of the national event.
During the weekend, Medina also had the opportunity to perform alongside some of the country’s leading marching bands, including the Band of HM Royal Marines, as well as visiting bands from the United States – the Liberty High School Grenadier Band, the Carolina Band and Marching Mizzou from Missouri.
Chairman Kevin Downer has said:
“London Band Week was a wonderful opportunity for Medina Marching Band to showcase the talent, dedication and spirit that exists within our organisation. Watching our members perform with such confidence and professionalism on some of the country’s most iconic ceremonial routes filled us all with immense pride.
“This achievement is the result of the hard work of our young people, our instructional team, our volunteers, parents and supporters, who give so much behind the scenes. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone who made this memorable weekend possible.
“Medina Marching Band continues to be an outstanding ambassador for the Isle of Wight, and we are incredibly proud of every single member.”
The band has thanked its instructors, volunteers, parents, supporters and sponsors for helping make the opportunity possible.
Following the success of London Band Week, Medina Marching Band is now inviting new members to join its growing organisation.
The group offers young people the chance to learn music, develop marching and performance skills, build confidence, make lasting friendships and perform at local, national and international events.
No previous musical experience is required, with full training provided by the band’s instructional team. Anyone interested in joining can get in touch through Medina Marching Band’s social media channels or attend a rehearsal to find out more.
