This was a game that the Roes dominated in terms of possession but struggled with finishing. From the perspective of the home side, it was a contest full of wayward attempts and great saves, in which the visitors took all 3 points in a game that could so easily of finished a goalless draw.
Cowes striker Kira Smith walked away with the Player of the Match accolade after filling in for the absent keeper and making some incredible saves to prevent a wider margin of defeat.

After the game, Cowes Sports Ladies’ manager Martin Wragg said:
“This was a rather frustrating result against a determined Widbrook.
“The ladies tried to get the ball down and play football, but it’s hard to do so when you play against a team that favours the hoof and chase it method.
“The 1 goal we let in was sloppy; they had a few near chances from corners but some great saves from our goalkeeper and player of the match Kira Smith keeping the score at a 1-0 loss.”
Cowes Sports Ladies go again on Sunday 8th October, looking to get some points on the board as they host Mudeford Phoenix at Westwood Park.
Both Shanklin and Wight Eagles Ladies had their games postponed. Shanklin were particularly aggrieved not to have played as they had made their way to the mainland before the against Varsity was called off at the last minute.
Shanklin manager Gemma Woodford said:
“I was fuming. Apparently it only started raining at 12:00. It was so annoying and such a waste of money.”
