An abandoned house opposite a disused Isle of Wight prison has been knocked down – but without planning permission. The Firs on Postern Road at Camp Hill had been empty for years but in recent months demolished to make way for new houses. The house was demolished without planning permission so now Waterlooville-based Colwell Bay Development is seeking retrospective consent. The developers —which now owns the site — have cleared the land to allow the build of 6 more homes where The Firs previously stood. Plans were submitted earlier in the year for 9 houses ‘to make the most efficient use of the site’ but were subsequently withdrawn. Concern has been raised by Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council about too many properties being squeezed together, saying it looked “cramped and visually intrusive”. The new plans submitted have been previously considered by the Isle of Wight Council and refused. In 2019, the same proposals were submitted by a different developer and were approved by the government’s Planning Inspectorate. No building work has since taken place to implement the 2019 scheme, and the permission expired. In documents for the latest application, it says the proposals are exactly the same as the ones from 2019, so it says the council should be able to approve them. The site is opposite the empty Camp Hill prison. You can view the plans, 23/01924/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning portal. Comments can be made until 8th December.

Developers out of control
Yup, thank the Tories for that, money and profit before the people.
Lol. Like liberals/labour would do suuuuuch a better job. So many bankrupt socialist run cities make a fool out of your blind-side partizan comment. Prat.
Learn to spell idiot, guess you represent the intellectual far right.
I don’t see the problem with this. Looks much better. Whatever happens there would have meant demolishing the old house.
If only IW Council had the balls to do the same to the old derelict dumps
in Sandown.
Well done to whoever made such a difference.
WHO NEEDS PLANNERS, COUNCILLORS ETC GET AWAY WITH DOING WHAT THEY WANT
How dare they remove this disgusting eye score and look to replace it with something useful. I love our crumbling derelict island
Approved for the old lot but declined for the new lot? New lot obviously need to learn to pay the right people!
Who decided it was a good idea to demolish it without permission? clearly a calculated decision. If you ignore the rules you don’t deserve to prosper.
So what? If the damn council put as much effort into replacing the floating bridge and getting rid of rogue councillors and mayoresses the island would be in a much better position. It was an eyesore. Woke planning officials probably had a proper wobbler on when they were told about this. I bet they even bought a new bottle of lube.
Did the Council give permission for Israel to demolish and destroy tens of thousands of homes and make 2million homeless?. Why in the west we worry so much about nothing important, this house was a danger, would never be habital again.
No, apparently they didn’t. Damn cheek.
why does it matter? rebuild it then to knock down in 20/30 years time..
You only need a demolition notice to knock it down not PP.
