Brevity’s Hear Me Now project – a 6-month creative writing project for LGBTQ+ People & Allies – is currently on display at Ryde Library.
The ‘text-hibition’ features a selection of work created by locals as a result of the project, as well as a spoken-word recording.
Writers of all abilities were encouraged to take part in the series of free instructive writing and print workshops, energising guided walks and bold, inclusive talks.
Anmarie Bowler, Editor of Brevity, the Isle of Wight’s Literary Handbill said of the unique selection of short stories and poetry on display at Ryde Library:
“Hear Me Now was about providing a welcoming space to write and consider short-form fiction. I hope we helped to grow a more supportive and empowered Island writing community with this project.”
Along with the series or workshops, walks and talks led by a variety of diverse, experienced writers and artists, participants were also offered one-to-one mentoring.
Anmarie continued:
“All writers benefit from a supportive mentor and editor. Kind, focused and upbeat feedback makes for better writers and subsequently better short stories for publication.”
The ‘text-hibition’ also includes a link to a recording of This Is Not an Apple, a curated spoken-word piece that features written work from all participants performed by local actors.
