Family and friends of missing 32-year-old Michelle Pelletier are continuing their efforts to locate her more than 65 hours after she went missing from the Isle of Wight Festival.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Canadian national from Sudbury, Ontario was last seen by her friends at around 02:00 on Sunday morning. Those friends awoke just hours later under the glorious weekend sunshine to find Michelle missing. They have not seen or heard from her since.
There has been a potential sighting of Michelle at 04:30 on Sunday morning in the car park of Sainsbury’s in Newport. It is alleged she was asking for directions to the Red Jet.
Island Echo can reveal that Michelle, who is described as being 6ft tall with blonde hair and a Canadian accent, has left her passport, flight tickets and a lot of possessions behind but has taken a red suitcase with her. She is due to leave the country on Sunday.
Last week Michelle travelled to London to see the band ‘Pearl Jam’ perform in concert before making her way down to the Isle of Wight Festival on Thursday, arriving at Ryde from Southsea via hovercraft.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they are carrying out enquiries. They say it is possible she has already left the Island.
In a statement they have said:
“A 32-year-old Canadian woman was last seen by her friends between 2am and 3am on Sunday June 24.
“We are carrying out enquiries with colleagues from other forces”.
The Canadian Government have been alerted to Michelle’s disappearance and have told Island Echo:
“Global Affairs Canada is aware of reports regarding a Canadian citizen missing in Newport, United Kingdom.
“Consular officials are providing assistance to the family during this difficult time.
“Canadian consular officials in London are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information”.
Family members back home in Canada have established a Go Fund Me page to raise enough money to fly Michelle’s mother and sister to the United Kingdom so they can be close to the investigation. $1,300 has already been raised.
Speaking out on the fundraising page, the distressed family have said:
“Michelle is a fun girl who loves music and travel. She set out on an adventure of a lifetime and we have no idea what has happened to her. The police, both locally and in the UK, are investigating with the help of Interpol in hopes of finding her safe and bringing her home. Help and prayers are needed. Thank you for any and all support”.
Pamela Pelletier, Michelle’s sister, has gone on to say:
“Thank you so much for all of the support and love we have received this far. I just don’t have the words to express our fear, grief, or even how thankful we are for everyone reaching out”.
Anyone with information is asked to call Hampshirr Police on 101, quoting reference number 44180238112.
