SAVOUR FINE COFFEE ON BOARD WIGHTLINK’S ST CLARE

The irresistible aroma of artisan coffee specially blended on the Isle of Wight will soon be tantalising passengers aboard Wightlink’s newly re-fitted St Clare flagship.

Wightlink has teamed up with Newport-based Island Roasted who will supply a locally roasted speciality blend to be served aboard St Clare. It is envisaged that 3 tonnes of coffee beans will be supplied by Island Roasted to Wightlink in the initial year of the deal.

The partnership with Island Roasted is the latest to be announced by Wightlink as part of its ongoing drive to increase the number of local producers and suppliers it uses. Earlier this month Wightlink announced that Wight Crystal, which is sourced at Knighton and bottled at Newport, was to be its preferred supplier of bottled water. Further partnerships will be announced in the coming weeks.

Elwyn Dop, Wightlink’s Operations Director, says:

“We are turning to Island suppliers and producers not just because supporting the local economy is part of our ethos but because the goods offered are of such a consistently high quality.”

Dan Burgess of Island Roasted says the signature blend of coffee drum-roasted for Wightlink had been specially selected to provide a smooth, rounded, brew that could be enjoyed with or without milk. It is crafted using beans specially selected from distinct producers from El Salvador, Brazil, Honduras and India. He said:

“We are very excited to be bringing our Island Roasted coffee to customers aboard the St Clare. The coffee market is changing with more and more people looking for speciality blended artisan coffee and we are delighted to be working with Wightlink to bring such a product to its customers.”

Island Roasted is a family-run business that works with Rain Forest Alliance coffees where possible and has earned a Royal IW Agricultural Society Wight Marque award.

Dan says:

“Only the highest quality, ethically and sustainably produced coffee is sourced while direct trade routes are used wherever possible ensuring the producer gets the highest price for their dedication. We hope the results of this approach will be appreciated by St Clare passengers.”

Sean Millward, Wightlink’s Head of Business Operations pictured adds:

“Island Roasted coffee is another example of a great Island product.  Their coffee is ethically sourced, perfectly blended and roasted to perfection,  I am sure it will enjoyed by all our passengers when St Clare comes back  into service after her annual refit”.
