Two women have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a small fire at a property in East Cowes yesterday evening (Friday).
Police were called shortly before 21:00 to reports of a small fire at an address on York Avenue. No damage or injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The fire was brought under control by a single fire appliance from Newport.
As part of the subsequent investigation, a 44-year-old woman from East Cowes and a 46-year-old woman from Sandown were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Both women remain in police custody while enquiries continue.

I rest my case, this Island is getting poisoned
and they scream a fixed link will make the island worse, the scum are already here, just scratch the surface and you will find them.
So true, we need a fixed link to escape the
local scum polluting this once lovely safe
Island.
Sadly it’s becoming cesspit.
But you must admit its good to know we’re an equal opportunity island now with so many members of the fairer sex being charged with drink and drug driving, thievery, fraud, arson, stabbings and attempted murder, Cock.
Looking at many women on the island thesedays
it doesn’t surprise me.
Law is lax on the island, we need more law.
Where did it all go wrong!, I can remember women when they
were women.
Nowdays full of Tatts and Chavy
Very unlady like.
Bang them up.
What is it with Cowes & fires?
I bet insurance premiums in Cowes will go up,
great opportunity to milk it.
