Engineers are working to fix an electrical box after it was wiped out by a car this morning (Saturday).
Specialists from Scottish & Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) are on scene on St George’s Way, outside National Tyres, where a VW Polo has wiped out an electrical box.
Island Echo understands that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were initially called to the incident at around 10:00.
Firefighters worked to make the scene safe before electrical engineers arrived.
They have since stood down and returned to station.
Tape has been placed around the vehicle whilst heavy machinery is being used to carry out repairs.
St George’s Way remains open with the works having no impact on traffic heading in or out of Newport.
It is unclear how the collision occurred but it is believed that no injuries have been sustained.
