Local Police Constable Danni Tosdevin has been awarded an Area Commander’s Certificate for her contribution to a robust investigation which helped secure charges against a repeat offender in Ryde. On the evening of 24th September last year, Police had reports of cars being spray painted with graffiti. Officers were flagged down by a member of the public who pointed out the man responsible, and Danni came to the assistance of her colleague, PC James Carey, who had been met with resistance whilst arresting the man. After he was detained, the offender was found to be carrying a number of items which were believed to have been stolen. Danni and James employed an excellent investigative mindset in identifying the shops where the items had been stolen, which resulted in the man being charged with multiple burglaries. He was also charged with criminal damage in relation to the graffiti, and other crimes including harassment against Island Echo’s editor Darren Toogood and possession of a knife. The man has since pleaded guilty to a number of offences in court and is awaiting sentence. Island Echo will be reporting more on this case – an attack on the press – upon sentence. PC Tosdevin’s involvement in identifying and safely arresting the offender and her contribution to the investigation, which secured charges against someone who posed a threat to local businesses, residents and the local press, led to the award being handed out at a ceremony in Newport last week.

Nice to be recognised for her work, but surely that is what she is trained and paid for doing .
Exactly what I was thinking when I read the article.
A ‘well done’ from a senior officer would surely have sufficed. Receiving an award for helping a colleague to arrest someone and investigating a burglary seems a little excessive.
But, maybe someone doing their job and doing what’s expected of them is rarer than we think these days?
Look a little more carefully, then you may ‘see’ why she has been chosen.
Tick, tick and maybe even three ticks
Lol!! You may have a point!
True but she could be a “proper copper “ instead of one that just goes through the motions, well done.
So you wouldn’t accept a thank you or a bonus if you were doing a good job then? The police risk their life’s protecting us. If a thank you and certificate helps them stay happy in their job then support them. More positive comments please instead.
I read the first 4 comments while shaking my head & thinking exactly along your lines. Then read yours. Thank god for some sensible people. Everything you said, seconded!
Send him to the mainland for sentencing as they seem to hand out tougher sentences
Being a small island not unlike the isle of man it would be fairly easy to get really strict with offenders, we just need the right people in control of sentencing, not the current muppets.
What the government, you mean? Possibly, yes. While you’re busy telling them that could you also mention 20,000 extra police (as was promised) would help crimes being committed in the first place and thus reduce the need for court time? Brilliant, we’ll leave that in your capable hands then.
Why has the male officer who was also involved in the arrest and investigating of stolen items not been awarded, an yes probably that word WOKE being mentioned by the higher ranks.
Because SHE went to HIS assistance, thus securing the arrest.
and without HIM, SHE would have failed miserably
Well done Danni! Fly high girl! x
Well done and thank you for taking your job seriously and delivering results for the local community, but getting an award for doing what any normal police person would have done day in day out thirty years ago seems a little strange – is it really that rare now to find a member of the police ‘service’ actually doing what the vast majority of the population believe they all are supposed to do?
Excellent job done, well done to all of you involved.
So they actually give out awards to the police for arresting someone isn’t that their job? Be like giving an award to a pizza delivery guy for delivering a pizza
Erm… rewarded for doing her job??!!! Really?
Ahh bless. 11 commentors who all begrudge others getting recognition.
One can only wonder why….
Clearly these people didn’t get enough praise as children.
Well done to this officer and her colleagues involved. Recognition is an important part of keeping morale high amongst services and it is a shame that some people are looking for reasons to denigrate this, such as ‘Woke’ or ‘i can why she was picked tick tick’. That’s not very respectful to the Officer involved and doesn’t support our Police, who do have a tough job with limited resources.
