Much-loved children’s fun club Scallywags, based at Broadlea Primary School in Lake, is to close at the end of the month.
The club – which has been running for some 27 years – has cited unexpected changes at the primary school site as the reason for its closure.
In a post released on their Facebook page, those in charge claimed they were ‘devastated’ by the untold developments.
As a result, those parents who make use of the after-school club and holiday club during the half-term holidays will have to seek alternative arrangements for their children.
A return for the club hasn’t been ruled out, but if it was to happen it would need to be at a completely different site.
The club will remain open until Friday 31st March.
A spokesperson from Scallywags has said:
“We would like to thank all the wonderful children, families, professionals and staff that have passed through our doors and made Scallywags Fun Club the most amazing out-of-school club for 27 years.
“Scallywags Fun Club has cared for so many children attending Broadlea Primary School and many children in the surrounding community on the Island.
They will ALL be remembered and missed.”

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for a company sponsorship
How about it Wightlink?
I frist want here when I was 8 years old and soon is going to be my 18th birthday but now I can’t go anymore. I hope they find somewhere soon ASAP
I have been going to scallywags fun club since I was 8 years old and all of the stuff are amazing they really know how to do there job
And clearly have taught you well. As an eighteen year old to spell ‘staff’, such a long word to tackle.
The children in Lake as we all know are delightful little darlings, and never any trouble, so if any have had input from this place, they have done a super job of helping to create children we can all be proud of.
I have special needs so I find it hard to spell
Hannah, sorry to hear that, to be honest many non special needs including myself have to ask Siri etc how to spell more often than most like to admit.
Anyone can make a mistake, and nice of you to support them.
Just it is hard times for most of us now, and to keep places like that open is so very costly.
Hope you find happiness there or in other nice places.
What are you going on about, nothing to do with money, no cost to tax payers or support from IWC, also kid’s that go and have gone have mostly become trustworthy, good working people with careing and gentle nature, not the very small minority that create problems. Closure causes issues for hard working who rely on holiday child care. So sad another child care resource is closing. More will be giving up work soon and claiming UC if can’t secure child care.
Use a spell checker then.
Lake’s young certainly made the news a lot in recent times.
