In a union of generations, Vecta House Care Home and Summerfields Primary School have come together to create a bond between their residents and local school children.
The partnership began when Vecta House and Summerfields joined forces for gardening club which is now called the friends and family garden. They planted colourful flowers and have a Vegetable patch creating a peaceful sanctuary that brings joy to all that visit. This communal endeavour not only beautifies the care home but also cultivates a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and unity among residents and children.
The partnership between Vecta House and Summerfields extends beyond the gardens creation. During the much anticipated sports day, the residents and children engaged in a variety of games. Laughter filled the air as they joyfully raced in the classic egg and spoon race.
Among many activities that have brought the residents and children together, the Book Club has emerged as a beloved highlight. The residents and children gather regularly to share stories that ignite their imaginations and spark meaningful conversations. On their last visit children made each resident a card thanking them for allowing them to share their books and how they enjoyed coming to visit. The book club has become so popular that Vecta House Care Home are inviting children to continue visiting throughout the summer holidays.
Tanya Everson Activities Lead at Vecta House Care Home said:
“I am so proud of the bond we have created with the residents and children of Summerfields Primary School. The joy and new bonds formed between residents and children is heart warming to witness. We have had great feedback from residents and look forward to continuing our partnership in the future. I would like to thank Mrs Gartell the Head Teacher of Summerfields and teacher Hayley Sheaf.”
Children came to visit the residents one last time before breaking up for the summer holidays where they held a mini concert in the beautiful gardens. Children sang a variety of songs and played their Ukuleles, residents enjoyed the music while basking in the glorious sunshine. After they had finished the show children and staff were presented with gifts as gratitude for all their visits and for the joy they have brought to the home.

Later that afternoon Tanya and Kelly the activities team delivered a thank you collage containing a variety of photos and quotes from residents. The staff showed Tanya and Kelly into the home where they have a display board called Summerfields Primary partnership with Vecta House displaying photos of all the activities they have done together.
