From this September, HTP Apprenticeship College will be offering youngsters the chance to learn the fundamentals of football coaching.
Those enrolling on the new course will have the opportunity to train and play under the guidance of experienced professionals, as well as the chance to put their skills to the test on the pitch.
Students will study the latest techniques and strategies with an experienced team in a supportive and inclusive environment, with practical training, competitive matches and performance-based sessions. There will be opportunities to play, coach, officiate and organise across multiple formats of the game, including traditional grass football, futsal and beach soccer.
Youngsters taking the course will either study towards a Level 2 Sports Coaching, or Level 3 Sports and Exercise Science qualification, as well as completing industry-recognised awards and qualifications, from external national governing bodies such as The Football Association (FA) and Sports Leaders (SLQ). Such qualifications will help to increase their chances and opportunities for employment.
The programme is led by experienced sports trainer and coach Jacob Toms. Jacob has worked for various professional football clubs, including Southampton FC and Chelsea FC. He is also currently involved with both Portsmouth FC Academy and England Beach Soccer.

Jacob says:
“I am really excited to see the launch of this new and exciting programme at HTP, which will allow Island based students with a passion for sport the opportunity to blend their education alongside a structured, football development programme.
“After several months of hard work behind the scenes, we have designed a bespoke programme that provides students with a unique learning environment, designed to inspire them to reach their full potential – whether in a playing or coaching capacity.
“Through maximising on existing partnerships our team have with external organisations, we have agreed strategic collaborations to allow exclusive experiences for our students – including through both local and national providers, such as Xcel Performance Coaching and England Beach Soccer.
“I would encourage any student interested in developing their knowledge on sports coaching or embarking on a career in the industry to not hesitate in applying and come and be a part of our exciting programme!”
