Wight Eagles were narrowly defeated away at AFC Totton Ladies over the weekend.
The Island side travelled away to AFC Totton in Southampton for the league game in the Hampshire Division 2, the sides met for the first time since the first game of the season where it finished 1-1.
AFC Totton came out stronger against the youthful Wight Eagles side who were missing some experienced players through injury.
16-year-old Millie Tinsley had to drop into the back four following the last minute withdrawal of Emma Webb few hours before kick-off. Eagles captain Katie Rann had a game on her hands against the striker who was very quick and skilful on the ball and had the back four turning at every chance they got forward.
The Islanders didn’t really come out first half and lacked flare and fluidity in their passes as they tried to gain possession, but every chance was cut out when the Eagles tried to push forward.
Second half the Eagles came out much stronger, gaining possession straight away and putting the pressure on AFC Totton with the very energetic Jess Green in the middle pairing up with Georgia Dye as they started to find their feet and dictate and control the game.
The Island side had a good run of corners as they pushed for an equaliser, inform striker Kira Smith had a few chances one and one with the keeper but was denied by the keeper who was having a fantastic game and keeping the Eagles at bay.
Into the last 10 minutes of the game and the Eagles won another corner, with Georgia Dye swinging the ball into the box and it goes directly in to equalise for the Eagles at the near post as a keeper couldn’t stop it. Eagles then went onto threaten the game as they had all possession but again undone but last minute wonder strike Into the top corner and Eagles keeper Alicia Keys Had no chance to stop it but all inside but very unlucky today not to clean the point.

Manager Dan Verstraeten said:
“I thought the ladies played absolutely amazing in the second half really to take the fight to AFC Totton and we look the better side as we went for the win unfortunately again we were undone by a fantastic strike which we needed to close down but these things happen in football.
“We go again on Sunday against Shanklin in the cup and I hope we can see many people there watching and cheering both the Island ladies teams on.
