Athletes from Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight have returned home with an impressive collection of medals after competing in an annual indoor bowls tournament in Gloucestershire.
Three teams travelled to Cotswold Bowls Club in Stroud for the competition, making the journey the day before alongside supporters and coaches.
Despite facing experienced opposition from across the UK, including teams from Wales, the Isle of Wight squad enjoyed a highly successful tournament, with several athletes making their competitive debuts.
The SOIW Seals team of Caitlin, Eloise, Beki and Fleur claimed the Division B Silver Trophy.
The SOIW Sharks – made up of Samantha, Ross and Michael – secured bronze medals despite competing with one player fewer than other teams and adapting throughout the event.
Kevin, Sarah, Anna-Rosa and Ben, representing the SOIW Dolphins, narrowly missed out on a podium finish after placing 4th overall.
Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight has thanked Isle of Wight Community Club and Cowes Bowling Club for providing facilities that have supported the athletes’ training.
The organisation has also expressed its gratitude to Wightlink Ferries for its continued support through the Wightlink in the Community programme, which helps competitors travel to events on the mainland.
