A 13-room House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) for working Island residents scheme has been submitted for an Isle of Wight hotel.
Lorraine Barratt has proposed alterations and a conversion of The Lorron Hotel at 90 Sandown Road, Lake, a site also occupied by residential accommodation.
Ground floor plans lodged with County Hall show 5 bedrooms, a family room, lounge, gym and a laundry room.
On the first floor there would be 7 bedrooms, a lounge and an HMO office.
This afternoon (Friday, 12th June), the owner of the Lorron Hotel said:
“The owner of the Lorron Hotel would like to inform the public that the proposed plans to convert the Lorron Hotel into a HMO are for working Island residents only.
“The applicant has no intention of using the property to accommodate individuals who do not have the legal right to reside in the jurisdiction and will take all reasonable steps required by law to ensure compliance with relevant immigration, housing, and tenancy regulations.
“The proposed change of use is intended to address local housing needs and provide suitable accommodation for members of the Island community.
“Unfortunately people will always jump to conclusions, this is why we feel some clarification is needed.”
A bungalow at the site would remain under the proposal.
The council last year gave Mrs Barratt permission for a conversion of part of The Lorron Hotel to form 3 flats.
Her agent, Trade Plans, previously said the hotel is more akin to a hostel and only operates for 4 months of the year.
It said that for the last 23 years, the premises has specialised in school children parties in association with their relevant schools.
Island Roads has made no objection to the latest plans.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/00617/FUL ends on 3rd July, with a decision due on 23rd July.
