A repeat drink driver from Binstead, who was caught behind the wheel in a works van in the middle of the afternoon, has been banned from the roads for 3 years.
Cory Daniels, 21, of Broadway Crescent, first appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court back in April, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Daniels was caught behind the wheel on the afternoon of 28th February when a member of the public alerted police that a swaying man had got off the Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head Fastcat service. He was seen getting into a vehicle before proceeding to drive off.
In a previous court hearing, Jason Spelman, prosecuting, told the court how Police officers noticed Daniels was slurring his words and noticeably smelled of alcohol when they pulled him over on Cross Street, Ryde while driving his work vehicle, an Island Facility Services (IFS)-liveried van.
Defence solicitor Oscar Vincent told the court that on the day before the arrest, his client had been out in Portsmouth, where he attended a social event. He also told the court his client enjoyed a few alcoholic beverages with his lunch on the day of the offence.
The court heard how Daniels already has a previous conviction for drink driving on his record, dating back to 2024.
Handing down their sentence last week (16th June), Magistrates banned Daniels from driving for 36 months and handed him a 12-month community order with 10 rehabilitation days and 100 hours attached.
He was ordered to pay a £114 surcharge fee and £85 costs.
