A 2-vehicle collision on the Downs road this morning (Thursday) is causing heavy traffic build-up through Downend, Ashey and Brading.
Island Echo understands that the incident, which has occured near the junction of Rowlands Lane, Lime Kiln Shute and the Downs Road, has seen a VW Golf collide with a VW Caddy.
Emergency crews were first called to the scene at around 11:30.
Both of the involved vehicles have sustained damage, but the occupants have been able to self-extricate themselves.
As a result of the collision, The Downs Road was blocked for a short while whilst the incident was dealt with. The road is currently under Police direction, awaiting the arrival of recovery agents from Bartletts.
The accident comes on a very busy day for the Isle of Wight road network as festival-goers descend upon Newport.
With the partial closure of Fairlee Road towards East Cowes and Wootton, many are using the Downs to access Long Lane into the heart of the Island.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
