An inquest into the death of a paedophile, who was jailed for some 28 years for a plethora of extreme sexual offences, has been opened and adjourned.
The inquest touching on the death of 71-year-old Alan Fowler was opened at the Isle of Wight Coroners Court earlier this week (10th June).
HMP Isle of Wight inmate Fowler suffered a fall in his cell on the morning of 15th May, the court heard.
CPR was conducted, and an ambulance was called, which then conveyed him across the road to St Mary’s Hospital. Medical professionals conducted CPR again at the hospital, but pronounced Fowler deceased just before 14:00.
A post mortem carried out on 4th June gave the death as ‘unascertained’. Further tests are set to be carried out.
Fowler, born back in 1957 in Durham, was sent to prison for 28 years back in 2018 for 18 sexual offences, including indecent assault and rape. He was jailed alongside his brother, who was also found guilty of several sexual crimes.
Assistant Coroner Daren Samat, sitting for what Island Echo understands to be the first time since his appointment in January, adjourned the inquest to a provisional date of 14th December 2026.
