New councillors on the Isle of Wight have been learning the ropes in advance of the meetings they will be expected to attend, and decisons they will have to make.
The training schedule for new and returning councillors includes workshops on the code of conduct, decision making and cyber security.
County Hall confirmed there has been an initial 4-week induction programme to assist members with the relevant information and guidance needed to enable them to be equipped to carry out their roles effectively.
The introductory training includes workshops on councillor roles and responsibilities, governance and the constitution, code of conduct and decision making, information governance and cyber security and council services.
A local authority spokesperson said:
“Now full council has agreed positions for chairs and committees, there will also be training specifically based on the needs of individual committees.
“Councillor learning and development is an ongoing activity throughout their term of office and will be informed by identified needs as they emerge.”
A total of 22 new ward representatives joined the council at the 7th May local elections, including 18 Reform UK councillors, one Island First Network independent, a Liberal Democrat, one Green Party member and another from the Labour Party.
Reform UK has 15 chair and vice-chair committee roles, the most of any group in County Hall’s new term.
Probably plotting next years Council tax increase.
Why not just install speed Camera’s and make extra revenue
that way and by introducing islandwide parking permits.
