The Museum of Ryde, a hidden gem in the basement at the end of the Royal Victoria Arcade in Union Street, is to open 6 days a week.
Due to the interest shown at the Isle of Wight Volunteers Heritage fair, the museum will now be open from 11:00 to 16:00 every Monday to Saturday.
The museum contains a large number of items, displays and photographs showing the history and development of Ryde, its businesses, schools, societies and clubs and the unique ice well. It also houses the infamous Donald McGill collection of ‘Saucy Postcards’ that had Donald arrested for publicising obscenity.
Entry fee is £4 with the museum is staffed entirely by volunteers.
On Thursday 23rd March, at 14:30, local author and volunteer Jo Cooper will be giving a talk on items in the museum’s collection. This will be in the Tony Packer Room. Tea/coffee and cake will be available. All Welcome. Members of the museum free.
