Voodoo Raven, an Isle of Wight-based band formed by Jeff Piccinini, is set to play a number of gigs on the Island in October as they rehearse and record locally.
Many years ago, in California, Jeff and guitarist Frank Guiles played in a trio called Revenant and now they are reunited as the current lineup of Voodoo Raven.
The band is currently recording their debut album at Chale Abbey Studios and a series of gigs are scheduled in early October.
Jeff Piccinini’s musical journey begins in London in the 1970s punk rock scene playing and making records with Stormtrooper, Chelsea and the Smart as well as a short stint with the UK Subs. He also played with Nick Turner of Hawkwind and appears on the Space Gypsy album.
Jeff had the pleasure of touring the USA with his band the Smart on a 2 month Iggy Pop tour, plus touring with OMD and The Fixx. The last major US tour was with 12 punk bands, half British and half American which was called the Social Chaos tour and was a 6 week insane experience.
Frank has played and recorded with his California bands Endless Dream and Forever’s End and wrote a theme song for the Minnesota Vikings American Football team.
Drummer Terry Eustace played in the London band The Jelly Babies and were on Top of the Pops.
The band plans to release the album at the end of the year and hopefully find a label for distribution and promo with the view to getting on a major tour as a support act.
Currently, the band’s new release ‘All Fired Up’ which is part of the debut album has been getting quite a bit of airplay on many internet radio stations in the UK as well as the USA and other countries.
This a modern retro sounding power pop punk metal trio delivering an explosive sound. The up-and-coming gigs are all free admission and are as follows:
- 6th October – Bar 74, Ryde (20:00-00:00)
- 7th October – Ventnor Winter Gardens (19:30-22:00)
- 8th October – Strings Bar & Venue (19:30-23:00)
