Birds, butterflies and bees are welcome in gardens locally with new research revealing that people on the Isle of Wight are big fans of wildlife visitors.
The survey by housebuilder Barratt Homes, which has a number of developments on the Island, reveals that more than 80% of people like to see birds in their gardens.
Butterflies are almost as popular with 71% of those questioned ticking this box and bees third with 60% saying they are welcome in their gardens.
And those in the region don’t just expect wildlife to visit – they actively encourage visitors with more than 59% saying they put food out for birds and more than 55% planting bee-friendly flowers and trees in their gardens.
Barratt Homes sales director Michelle Storer said:
“It’s great to see how many people really embrace wildlife visitors to their gardens and actively encourage wildlife which is something we support.
“We’re working with the RSPB to raise employee awareness of wildlife-friendly best practice across our developments in the south and throughout our supply chain nationally”.
