Greene King pubs across the South East – including 5 located here on the Isle of Wight – have raised £397,800 for Macmillan Cancer Support to help people living with cancer.
The fundraising efforts by pub teams and the generous support of customers means that the money raised can be used to support the 128 Macmillan professionals currently funded by the charity across the region such as specialist dietitians, therapists and the iconic Macmillan nurse. Greene King has now raised £14 million for Macmillan over its 10-year charity partnership.
The Island’s 5 Greene King Pubs are Ryde Castle, The Folly Inn, The Fountain in Cowes, The Crab in Shanklin and the Hare and Hounds.
Alison Ramsay, senior social impact manager at Greene King, has said:
“This is proof that charity really is at the heart of all our pubs. What better way is there to celebrate our 10-year partnership with Macmillan than by having a record-breaking 12 months of fundraising. Our teams and customers are simply brilliant to have raised over £3million in 2022. Sadly, we all know someone living with cancer but we know every single pound raised in our pubs helps.”
Local Macmillan Relationship Fundraising Manager, Megan Watson, said:
“What a fantastic effort. Well done to the Greene King team members and customers at the Lamb Inn for their amazing fundraising. £6,524 is a great total.
“Right now, Macmillan is needed now more than ever, and we want to be there for people living with cancer in our communities. The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centres based at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester and at the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton, provide practical advice and emotional support in a welcoming and warm space, and make a real difference to the lives of people living with cancer. We simply couldn’t be there for people living with cancer without our fundraisers.
“We’re immensely grateful to Greene King for their continued and generous support of Macmillan and the millions of pounds that the partnership has raised over the years.”

Great effort, but once again, it’s such a shame to see an ‘in profit’ business taking the praise for raising money, without actually contributing anything themselves.
A superb achievement to such a wonderful charity. Sadly any of us may need help from this institution and I speak from experience when I say how lovely the staff always are. Thank you all
Fantastic well done to all involved
