Bembridge ‘A’ have got off to a flying start in Combination 2 of the Harwoods Isle of Wight League by scoring 44 goals in just 3 games – an incredible average of over 14 goals per game.
Across the 270 minutes they have played in the season to date, Bembridge’s 3rd team have scored a goal every 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
The ‘A’ side’s 1st game saw them win 0-19 away at Seaview Reserves. The regular Seaview goalkeeper had to leave the pitch injured at half time. However, the home side had already conceded 9 goals by this stage of the game.
The 2nd game against Ventnor ‘A’ saw the Bembridge keeper beaten 3 times. However, this was only a minor problem as the outfield players struck double figures in a 10-3 home win.
Last Saturday, Bembridge ‘A’ trounced Newchurch Reserves 15-0. Josh Parsons netted 5 times; there was a hat trick of braces for George Gully, Tyler Randle and Brad Wagstaff; Luca Wallis, Bobbie Wye, Nathan Groves and Dean May all bagged a goal apiece.
‘A’ team manager Andrew Bennett said of his team’s success at Seaview:
“We couldn’t believe the scoreline ourselves. We thought we’d win but never expected to put 19 goals past them.”
On his side’s win against Ventnor, Andrew said:
“Ventnor A are a newly-formed team. They are a very good side. However, they had a lot of players away golfing in Teneriffe.”

Andrew attributes his team’s success to a mixture of youth and experience, saying:
“We’ve brought in young players from the youth set-up, who are playing their 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons. George Gully and Luca Wallis are just 16 years old. We also have a spine of experienced players such as Josh Parsons and Charlie Watterson.”
Next up, Bembridge ‘A’ face High Park Reserves, who are also unbeaten in the season to date. In the game between the 2 clubs earlier in the season in the Ryde & District Cup semi-final, High Park won 3-2.
Andrew says of the forthcoming fixture:
“It’s going to be a tough game against High Park. We know all about them because we both play at Steyne Park.”

Not like the competition are any good anyway? Newchurch have been pants for years and Ventnors new A team will need time to settle in, and for the thugs at High Park, that’s a different story, those poor lads will be lucky to walk away from that one.
