
Red Jet and Hovertravel services have been suspended and Island Line trains have been halted in Ryde this afternoon (Thursday) as a result of the adverse weather currently being experienced across the Isle of Wight.
Strong gusts on the Solent have forced Hovertravel to stop their Ryde to Southsea service and Red Funnel have suspended the West Cowes to Southampton hi-speed Red Jet.
It’s thought that Wightlink’s Yarmouth to Lymington car ferry is close to its operational limit, but at the moment all Wightlink services are running to timetable.
High tides and large waves have led to flooding in Cowes, East Cowes and Yarmouth. In Ryde, Island Line trains are being prevented from travelling up the pier due to waves crashing over the top of the historic structure.
The Cowes Floating Bridge has also been pulled from service as a result of the extreme high tide, although it is expected to return as normal at around 14:00.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have attended The Causeway, Freshwater following reports of a car stuck in flood water. The water rescue unit from Newport was mobilised to the scene but quickly stood down as firefighters from Freshwater dealt with the minor incident. The water levels have since retracted and the road is passable.
There are no reports of any property flooding or any other weather-related incidents.
