A weather warning for fog has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with very poor visibility expected to develop from this evening (Wednesday) and continue through to Friday morning, potentially disrupting revellers heading to the Isle of Wight Festival.
The IW Met Service says there is a 90% likelihood of the weather event occurring, with the warning valid from 18:00 today until 11:00 on Friday (19th June).
Forecasters say that areas of low cloud and hill fog affecting the south and west of the Isle of Wight are expected to gradually lower during the afternoon and evening as winds ease, bringing fog down to sea level.
As night falls, the fog is forecast to spread across the Island and become locally very dense.
Although conditions should improve across many areas on Thursday morning, fog is expected to linger around some coastal locations before thickening again on Thursday evening and overnight.
The fog should finally clear during Friday daytime, although forecasters say the exact timing remains uncertain.
Motorists are being warned to expect very poor visibility in places, particularly over higher ground and along windward coasts, which could create hazardous driving conditions.
IW Met Service has also warned that delays or cancellations to Cross Solent services are possible while the fog persists.
