Rebel Marine, a leading provider of marine services based in Fishbourne, have recently invested in not 1, but 2 state-of-the-art electric tracked machines. In a first for the Isle of Wight, Rebel Marine can now offer for marine and land-based applications, a fully electric tracked carrier and tracked compact crane. Both designed and built by Hoeflon in Holland, using the latest battery charging technology, they are fully electric and remote controlled. The TC1 tracked carrier is only 800mm wide but can carry 1.2 tonnes, ideal for carrying heavy materials such as steel beams through small access doors. It can get large amounts of equipment to hard to reach places reducing manual handling and improving safe working practices. The C1E tracked compact crane is 712mm wide extending to 1100mm when lifting. It has a lifting capacity of 720kg and can reach a height of 5.6 metres. It also boasts a winch along with fly jib and head accessories. A small crane doing some heavy lifting, with pick and carry duties this really is a one of a kind machine. Both these machines can be manoeuvred in tight spaces ideal for internal construction work. With non-marking rubber tracks they are suitable for use over rough terrain or indoors. They are both fully electric so if they are indoors there are zero emissions meaning CO2 neutrality and minimal noise. Both can operate all day on a full charge. A spokesman for the company said,

Within days of arriving on the Island both machines could be seen in operation replacing a navigation mark off Cowes Parade and drawing quite some interest. As the access to where the mark needed placing was long, narrow and gradually stepped down towards the water it was decided to build a temporary ramp using non-slip grating down to where the mark was to be placed. This enabled the team to use the TC1 track carrier to transport the heavy mark down along the jetty. Once at the end it was over to the C1E tracked crane to lift it and lower into place. It was then bolted firmly on to it’s original concrete base. As the light was fading the team used their SMC TL55 solar powered light tower to fully illuminate the scene allowing them to work in the dark.
