Fairweather Festival organisers have announced that this year’s event will include a world record attempt, in partnership with Brothers Cider.
On Saturday 1st September, the Sandown Airport-based festival will be attempting to set a world record for ‘The largest gathering of people wearing odd socks’. The current record, held by an American charity, is 933 people.
The choice of world record is something of importance, highlighting that it’s okay to be different. The record attempts to raise awareness of Mental Health whilst having fun in the process.
This year, “the festival for better mental health” is raising funds and awareness for the Isle of Wight Youth Trust. The Festival will use and promote Hashtags #ItsOkToBeDifferent and #ItsOkToNotBeOk in conjunction with this project.
The Island’s MP Bob Seely will also be taking part in the world record attempt. He said:
“I’m looking forward to coming to Sandown Airport and supporting Fairweather Festival’s world record attempt and at the same time raising vital awareness of mental health and the incredible work carried out by the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.”
Festival goers are encouraged to purchase the official Brothers socks on the day for a £1 donation to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, but even if they come wearing their own mismatched socks from home- they count! The attempt will be made at 16:00 on the brand new stage, ‘The Den’.
The World Record attempt comes as part of a sponsored partnership with Brothers Cider. Those attending will also be able to chill in the ‘Brothers Cider Garden’ and enjoy various quirky flavours of cider such as Toffee Apple, Rhubarb & Custard and Wild Fruits.
At just £40 for an Adult weekend ticket and £25 for Teens, tickets for this years Fairweather Festival are an absolute bargain. Taking place on Friday 31st August and Saturday 1st September, Sandown Airport will play host to Example and DJ Wire, Razorlight, Professor Green, FooR, Dappy, Rhythm of the 90’s, The South, Fatman Scoop, Matt Terry and many, many more.
