Barchester’s Orchard House care home, in Newport, has been taking part in end-of-year activities including exercise and sports sessions and a big party to end the year in style.
Many of the current residents used to play or enjoy watching sports on the television with one lady, in particular, playing badminton in her younger years.
Exercise can be easily adapted for our residents, we blew up balloons and played balloon badminton and mini golf which went down well.
General Manager, Kim Fleming said:
“Residents really enjoy these physical activities and we feel it’s important to take care of our residents whole needs, physically as well as socially.
Sheila, resident at Orchard House said:
“I used to play sports when I was younger and I really enjoy taking part in sports games with my friends here, I like to keep as active as I can and it brings back memories for me”.
Elsewhere at the care home last week, staff got in the Christmas spirit by putting on a Christmas show for our residents.
Orchard House Christmas show was in full swing, Activities Staff Sue and Katie put together a show entitled ‘The 12 days of Christmas’ which required lots of singing, dancing and fancy dress.
For each day of Christmas staff wore a different prop and Helen Sutton one of our wonderful Senior Care assistants made a wonderful Swan a swimming! Residents had song sheets and happily wore props to join in the fun!
General Manager, Kim Fleming said:
“Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and our fantastic residents love to get festive so we’ve pulled out all the stops. It is so lovely to see them all getting into the Christmas spirit, it’s definitely my favourite time of year.”
Brenda, resident at Orchard House said:
